Swarming events: March through May

During a swarming event, the king & queen pair up, shed their wings, and create a nest chamber for their first batch of eggs.

The queen will care for this first batch until they can take over as workers to tend to colony.

It may take years for a new colony to grow large enough to produce swarmer's of their own.

What are termites, and why are they a problem?

Termites are social insects that eat decaying plant material, like wood, leaf litter, and soil humus. They are found globally, except in Antarctica. Termites often cause serious structural damage to buildings if left untreated for any length of time. They can be a serious economic issue.

How do I know if I have termites?

There are several signs that should alert you to an infestation.
  1. Frass: very small droppings. These are six sided fecal pellets that are expelled from the infested wood through tiny holes called kick outs.
  2. Mud tubes: small tubelike structures that are built by subterranean termites. These are used to connect colonies in the soil to food sources "wood" above ground. These tubes protect them from predators and dry environments as the subterranean termites require a lot of moisture.
  3. Wood damage: can appear as tunnels and galleries in the wood, leaving it hollow and weak.
  4. Winged Alates: known as swarmers can indicate a termite infestation.

What should I do if I suspect a termite infestation:

Contact a trusted pest control company to advise you of effective termite control solutions to keep your home protected for years to come.

How do you inspect for termites?

A thorough inspection will include all exterior walls and eaves of the home, also a close examination of the foundation. It also includes an interior inspection of the attic if it is accessible, and the garage. We will check baseboards, walls, window frames, door frames, crawlspaces, cabinets, closets, and wood trim.

What treatments are offered?

This depends on the type of infestation occurring.
  1. We offer spot treatments for Dry-wood Termites.
  2. We offer exterior baiting for Subterranean Termite prevention.
  3. We offer pre-construction and new construction WDO treatments.
  4. We offer trenching around structures for termite prevention.

How you can help prevent termite infestations?

Do not pile firewood or wood debris next to the house as wood is a food source. Keep doors and windows closed to prevent flying termites from flying into the home. Do not let plumbing leaks go unrepaired. Termites are attracted to moisture in and around structures.

Contracts:

Most termite treatment contracts are for 1 year, with the option of renewing for an additional 4 years. Some treatment options are permanent but only for the specific area that was treated, such as dusting or boracare treatments. Exterior baiting is permanent if the stations are monitored and maintained.

Costs:

The cost of a termite treatment can vary by severity of the infestation, the size of the structure and the type of treatment needed or chosen.
